Walking along a creek daily for the past few weeks, I see how it changes each time in shape, speed and reflections, as Fall days move towards Winter.

Although it is a couple of hundred miles from the ocean, I trace its course in my imagination.

There is plastic debris trapped on tree branches in the water. Those bags and pieces I can reach, I retrieve, hoping to save some poor sea creature from choking to death. It’s my tiny contribution towards saving our Oceans and the creatures who live there.

And there are many who feel the same way and whose work has major results, as we learn from the following good news!

Countries showing us the way are:

BALI – The largest ever sum ($10 billion) was committed to protect 14 million square kilometers of the world’s oceans Mongabay

CHILE –created nine marine reserves along its coastline increasing state protected ocean from 4.3% to 42.4%BBC

The SEYCHELLES – created 130,00 square kilometer marine reserve in the Indian Ocean to protect from illegal fishing – for generations to come. National Geographic

BELIZE – took visionary steps to protect the Belize Barrier Reef (second largest in the world), as a result UNESCO removed the reef from its list of endangered World Heritage Sites BBC

and

NEW CALEDONIA – agreed to place 28,000 square kilometers of its ocean waters under protection, including some of the world’s most pristine coral reefs. Forbes.
